pickin’ up the slacks

March 7, 2007

Hi folks! More tomorrow, promises. I’ve been busy this week. (Will this slow down one day? will I become a delinquent blogger, and will this space degenerate, only to be relegated to the ghettos of Rarely Updated Blogs? Hopefully not, but keep visiting so that you’ll find out!)

True story: tonight I went to the mall with my pretend-girlfriend and burned a gift card on ridiculously expensive jeans. They have a button fly. Classy, though perhaps not designed with ease-of-urination in mind. No matter, I’ll just wear them with my long underwear bottoms that don’t have a fly at all. Seriously, who designs these things, eunuchs? The Penis Envy Avengers?

Maybe I should go back to being too busy to write things here.

Busy times here at Andybot, Inc.

  • First order of business is kudos to Bob Subdivided for his piece in the P-G yesterday about Mary Worth. It was of magnitudes higher quality than the main story that ran with it, which sort of basically made Mary seem as boring as everyone thinks she is.
  • <complain>I now use a Mac at work and still use a PC at home, so every day I re-learn how to do keyboard shortcuts, twice. What a difficult existence.</complain>
  • The new gig affords me the chance to find out about cool stuff that’s going on that I might otherwise miss. Witness: the Bricolage Production Company. They’re doing a staged reading NEXT Sunday/Monday (the 18th and 19th) of a play called “Weightless” by an Australian playwright named Christine Evans. Could be cool. They’re also doing an Amiri Baraka play next month. Keep an eye out.

newz for noobz

March 1, 2007

What can I say? Things haven’t been boring lately, but they haven’t been much to blog about either. Left old job yesterday (sad; I was there for five-plus years and really like my coworkers there), started new job today (happy, like my new co-workers there, though being positioned close to the sales people’s cubes isn’t necessarily ideal), looked at an apartment last night (nice, I’m gonna try to get it, I think). What more is there to say about this stuff, really? Just that it makes me more of an insomniac right now, and perhaps a little emotionally vulnerable? So don’t mess with me, okay?

As a quick addendum to the above (below) post about the Takemura album — it’s WONDERFUL music for commuting, especially in the morning, because most of the tracks sound like they could be soundtracking one of those arty films that show things going on in the city, maybe sped up a little so everything’s going really fast and the greater patterns of repetition emerge more clearly. If you want to feel like you’re in one of those films, pick it up and listen to it while you’re walking to work or waiting for the bus or whatever. Not as effective if you’re driving, I would presume.

Nothing major on the docket this weekend besides recovering from a somewhat stressful week, and hopefully checking out Jonestown.
